Hi! I am Emily Lawrie, I have been working at Fiona Craig Equestrian for the past 4 years.

I love working with the horses here, enjoy seeing the horse's progress in their training.

I am involved in and enjoy all aspects of the work we do here, especially starting the young horses.

I have been around animals and horses for ever and I take pride in caring for all aspects of the horse's needs and wellbeing.

Dressage has become my passion and I currently compete with 2 of my own horses Holly (Lady Michala) and Dorian T.

I started riding in my mid thirties on an old school master, just doing ribbon days and the odd pony club dressage test. My second horse Ted was quite opinionated and didn't like dressage so we mostly did show jumping and show hunter around the 80-90cm.

My partner had been going to Fiona for dressage lessons for a number of years and when Ted had to retire due to a re-occurring shoulder problem, Fiona found Cheeko for me, so it was quite natural to start dressage lessons with Fiona. I got Cheeko in October 2010, so we spent the rest of that season getting to know each other and having lessons with Fiona.

This season (2011-2012) has been my first season ever competing at registered dressage, Fiona wasn't content for me to do the whole season at L1 she encouraged me to do some L2 tests throughout the season as well.

Despite the fact that Cheeko was out of action for a couple of months due to a major dental operation, we have been quite successful in our first season. We have had a number of placing's at various shows, the highlights being a second in the "Back on Track" series at the Waikato festival of dressage which qualified us to compete at the Nationals and got our name in the Bulletin, and a 5th place at the Manukau festival of dressage in the 1.6 Championship class, this gave me the final qualifying mark to compete at HOY where we have been accepted.

Fiona is a great instructor able to teach at all levels from the very beginner such as myself to the top dressage riders. As a top rider herself it is always amazing to watch her ride your horse and see what it is capable of doing, it gives you that incentive to try harder because you know its achievable.

With Fiona I find that she communicate in a way that I can understand and because of my inexperience she does not use dressage jargon, she explains things very clearly and as a result my riding has improved considerably in a short space of time.

I would have no hesitation in recommending Fiona to anyone riding at any level.

Jen has been riding with Fiona since mid 2011 and has really gone ahead with her dressage in this time. She is currently riding at Novice Level 2, and just starting Elementary Level 3 on her warmblood mare Dunstonian Rose. Jen had a very successful season at Novice Level 2, with many placings in registered dressage.

Jen finds Fiona very easy to understand, as she is able to break things down and give exercises that Jen can do that helps with the overall picture. Fiona has an amazing eye, and nothing goes unnoticed! Over the past 12 months, thanks to Fiona's reminders, a lot of Jen's bad habits have improved significantly, and she is now starting to get her horse really working nicely. Jen can really notice a big difference, from when she first started working with Fiona.

Jen would recommend Fiona as a coach to anyone . . . from beginner to Grand Prix. Fiona is extremely experienced and really has a talent that more riders should take advantage of.

I have used Fiona for several years now to help me with my show jumping horses. I have taken flat work and jumping lessons with her and also used her to train my horses. The results have been amazing.

After a horse being with her for a week or two I have been able to take it out and compete with great success. The horses become much softer and responsive. In lessons Fiona is quickly able to see my weak areas and help me correct them.

Through a combination of lessons and training my riding has gone from strength to strength and I would highly recommend her as both a coach and horse trainer.

One of my long term goals was to create and ride my own freestyle dressage to music which I achieved this past season thanks to Fiona.

I started training with Fiona soon after she returned to New Zealand. At the time I was a very rusty, ex-eventer trying to return to riding after a very long break.

Thanks to Fiona's coaching, patience, persuasion and sense of humour, I have certainly achieved that and have even ventured into competing at registered Dressage up to Novice Level 2 and registered Show Hunter. Something I would never have thought I would be doing a few years ago.

One of my long term goals was to create and ride my own freestyle dressage to music which I achieved this past season thanks to Fiona. I believe Fiona is a really good instructor and highly recommend her.Yvette
